Developing property for housing requires following a set of codes and regulations to ensure safety and some counties require a review of construction plans before it can be completed. There are a number of strategies counties can implement to improve regulation systems, such as modernizing permitting and inspection processes, reviewing local regulations on rent and home building, and conducting a cost-benefit analysis on local impact fees to ensure that affordability remains a central goal. In this session, three former housing task force members will discuss actions they have taken to improve counties’ regulation system to enhance efficiency and affordability.
